Sour Cream Blueberry Coffee Cake Recipe with Bourbon Sauce

Coffee Cake is for Sharing With Friends

Coffee Cake; it’s one of those phrases that makes me smile with the thoughts of sharing with the Pointy Toed Shoes Sisters. Maybe I am showing my age, but I do enjoy a cup of coffee or a sip of bourbon served up with a fancy dessert and good company.

#BakeTogether with Abby Dodge

When Abby Dodge of the food blog Baking the World A Better Place   and author of The Weekend Baker: Irresistible Recipes, Simple Techniques, and Stress-Free Strategies for Busy People posted her #baketogether Sour Cream Coffe Cake challenge for October, I knew just what to do.

Abby Meet Jeremy; Jeremy meet Abby!

Chef Jeremy Ashby enjoys Woodford Reserve Bourbon
Chef Jeremy Ashby presented a Sour Cream Coffee Cake as the grand finale of this fall’s Woodford Reserve Chef Series luncheon. It was a thing of beauty!

Rather than a cake, the chef baked individual blueberry muffins – presented inverted, soaking in a puddle of a bourbon anglaise sauce and topped with ice cream and fresh blueberries.

I took Abby’s Sourcream Coffee Cake recipe with Ashby’s style, threw in some pepper flakes and sorghum and called it my own. he sorghum gives a depth of flavor, the pepper flakes a mild zing which breaks up the sweetness of the baked good and bourbon sauce.

Make these ahead of time, and just reheat the bourbon sauce before drizzling for serving. Your friends will think you are so clever! (The newspaper staff my long suffering guinea pigs ate every last one!) Thanks chef Jeremy Ashby and Ms.Abby!
