Peanut Butter Bacon Bourobn Bars Recipe featuring Buffalo Trace Bourbon Heritage Month

Celebrate Bourbon Heritage with Bourbon and Bacon and Peanut Butter

Is it too soon to think about this weekend’s tailgate offerings? The boys in the press box are in for a surprise, as I usually do brownies. But if I told them there was peanut butter with bacon and bourbon involved, I seriously doubt there would be any arguments.

Can you say that three times fast?

In celebration of Bourbon Heritage Month, I have been featuring different Kentucky bourbons, trying to pick appropriate pairings. Like wine, each bourbon has a different nose, taste, and finish. Today I choose Buffalo Trace Bourbon.

Buffalo Trace is the same distillery that brings you Blanton’s (one of my very favorite sippers) and Elmer T. Lee bourbon. I love love love to cook with Elmer Tee Lee, but Charlie says it’s off limits to me. Long story short; I like it so much in recipes that it goes away too quick when there is an occassion requiring sipping. Giggles

Buffalo Trace has aromas of oak that somehow speaks to the autumn season. It has a little sweetness, perhaps a whisper of honey, sliding down with a long brown sugar molasses finish which has an ever so brief spicy flirtation. It’s a casual bourbon, the kind of bottle you would pass amongst friends around the campfire. I like that.

Married up with peanut butter, chocolate and bacon Buffalo Trace bourbon kicks up the ante, making these bar cookies a favorite with the tailgate set. I cut these in generous rectangles and serve with a little something to sip on.

Enjoy Bourbon Heritage Month!
