I’ve been on a granita kick, you might have noticed. Maybe just maybe, I’ve saved the best one for last.
Lemons Aid is as much about southern summers, picnics in the park, and any one fruit I can think of,except Watermelon. Yeah, I got a recipe for Watermelon Granitas…but I’m saving it until Watermelons are actually in season here in Kentucky. The watermelons have just gotten their first true leaves since my return from Charleston South Carolina….so it’s going to be awhile.
If you love lemon aid Lemon Ice Granitas are for you. With just a zing of acidity, these cool refreshments are just the ticket to beat the summer heat. I’m munching and crunching one right now. I might have added just a hint of cherry moonshine over the top…or maybe not. You know I have many friends who think moonshine is an urban myth. Let’s leave it at that. Giggles

Small Batch Lemon Ice Granita Recipe
Inspired by the neighborhood Moms

Ingredients
- 5 – 6 lemons
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup Pure Cane Sugar
Method
1. Juice lemons to get about 1 cup of juice.
2. Use a zester or microplane to zest two lemons.
3. In medium boil water and sugar into a simply syrup. Add Lemon juice and zest; allow to cool to room temperature.
4. Freeze in a shallow bowl or pan…raking a fork through about every 20 minutes to get a grainy texture. Freeze about 1 hour.
Makes 2 cups. Use a lemon wedge and rim the glass, then dip into a plate of sugar. Fill and garnish with lemon wedge.
Nathalee Dupree suggests garnishing with a sprig of lemon balm or lemon thyme. She’s a smart cookie!
